ABOUT GIA IN THAILAND
GIA’s mission is to ensure the public trust in gems and jewelry by upholding the highest standards of integrity, academics, science, and professionalism through education, research, laboratory services, and instrument development.
Because diamonds are so prized and important to the jewelry trade, it’s essential to have a universal grading system for comparing their quality. In the 1940s and 1950s, GIA developed the 4Cs and the GIA International Diamond Grading System to objectively compare and evaluate diamonds.
GIA is the creator of the famous 4Cs of diamond value (Color, Clarity, Cut and Carat weight).
GIA laboratories serving the diamond grading needs of the world are now operational in Botswana, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Japan, South Africa and Thailand, in addition to the US locations of New York and Carlsbad. GIA’s Laboratory in Bangkok, Thailand, is presently one of three full-service (diamond grading, colored stone identification and origin determination, pearl identification and the all-important research element) GIA Laboratories outside the United States of America.
GIA laboratory in Thailand started out as GIA research Thailand in 2006. It provides a significant research element for both the local and international colored gemstone community through its renowned Field Gemology Program, detailed sample analyses, and on-line PDF publications. This research element significantly supports the gemstone identification and origin determinations the GIA Laboratories in Bangkok, Carlsbad, Hong Kong, New York and Tokyo make for the industry and consumers alike.
GIA laboratory and campus in Thailand are conveniently located in the U-Chu-Liang building positioned immediately opposite Lumpini Park, between Sathorn and Silom, on Rama IV Road. The building is within a few minutes’ walk of the Sala Daeng Skytrain (BTS) station and approximately equidistant between Lumpini and Silom MRT stations. U-Chu-Liang building is also served by two taxi ranks and has ample in-building parking.
